Sally Beer
Sally Beer, agribusiness advisor, City of Greater Bendigo
In her role as agribusiness advisor at the City of Greater Bendigo, Sally works with farmers and businesses to ensure agricultural perspectives are represented in strategies. This means that when Bendigo forms its vision for the future, agricultural voices will also be included.
Previously, Sally had varying jobs in agriculture, from working in the United States harvesting corn to working in far north Queensland on a cattle station. Sally says the best part about working in the agricultural industry is the people you meet along the way.
In your current role, what do you most enjoy and take pride in?
I make connections between people who may not have connected before, which can result in opportunities for my community. I like connecting to the farming community, and sharing my passion with others about agricultural champions, whether that is as local as the Thursday Farmers Market, or on a national scale. Working with my team - we have a dynamic, exciting team with big ideas and it is really exciting to share things you are passionate about, with others with similar ideals.
Who has influenced you throughout your career journey so far?
I believe our personalities are a direct reflection of the top five people you spend the most time with - it makes sense, considering how much time we spend at work, that it is good to surround yourself with positive team members.
Looking back, several individuals stand out: the entire team at GeoCommodities was very influential, especially business owner Brad, leading his team with an impeccable work ethic, and introducing me to the value of small businesses collaborating for the greater good of an industry. My team manager Michelle is excellent, and leads her team with a strong vision, so that we all bring our best selves to work every day.
