Students Present Workplace Projects At Passions And Pathways Expo

Students from across Bendigo gathered at the annual Passions and Pathways Expo this week to celebrate and present all that they’d learned during their time taking part in this year’s workplace projects.

Over 160 Year 6 students from Specimen Hill, Eaglehawk, Lightning Reef and St Monica’s Primary Schools gathered at the expo to present and share their experiences of the workplace projects they’d undertaken as part of the 2018 Passions and Pathways program.

Passions and Pathways is a valuable partnership between primary schools and a variety of local industries, that exposes students at a critical age to the range of future career opportunities available to them.

Dzintra Martin, Partnership Manager of Passions and Pathways, said the shift in students’ understanding of the nature and possibilities of work, realising their own strengths and increased self-confidence are just some of the outcomes of this year’s program.

“Passions and Pathways is an outstanding partnership between schools, businesses and other organisations. This year we had 36 workplaces involved with our four schools. Listening to students talking about their experiences at the Expo really shows our partners the value they add to Passions and Pathways. This is an amazing community effort.”

During the Expo held at the Bendigo Town Hall, students made formal presentations of what they had learnt during the year. They also had an opportunity to interact with attendees and demonstrate their workplace projects. Their pride and sense of achievement was evident in the way each student conducted themselves.

Passions and Pathways is a unique partnership between the Goldfields Local Learning and Employment Network (GLLEN), local Primary Schools, the Economic Development Unit of the City of Greater Bendigo, the Bendigo Manufacturing Group and numerous local businesses. The Passions and Pathways program is now in its seventh year.
